In September 2023, the Port of New York and New Jersey released its plan to get to net-zero greenhouse emissions by 2050, with interim goals of 35% reduction by 2025 and 50% by 2030.
The blueprint includes converting 50% of the light-duty fleet to electric vehicles by 2025.

A recent study on the carbon footprint of food miles revealed global food miles equate to about 3 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO2e). It also showed that transport accounts for 19% of total food system emissions, and the transport of fruit and vegetables contributes to 36% of food miles emissions. Despite food miles making up about 18% of total freight miles, its emissions are responsible for 27% of the total freight emissions.
